Rivers are such a peaceful source of inspiration. Flowing purposefully from their source to the sea, overcoming barriers or taking slight detours around them if necessary, we can all take inspiration from the continuous movement, changing pace, bending and flowing of these magical bodies of water.
I live in Didcot, not too far from the Thames in the grand scheme of things, but have actually only taken a dip in it a couple of times. Once in Goring, on a glorious hot sunny day after a bike ride from Pangbourne with a free-spirited, wild swimming loving friend. And once watched over by a bemused friend after a bike ride near Appleford on New Year's Day in 2018, in a bid to start swimming every New Year's day (thwarted by being pregnant in 2019 and then the river being flooded in 2020!). I'd like to swim in it more, but am not quite bold enough to trust my ability to choose safe spots. I also can't take an 11 month old swimming ina river, so that makes it a bit more logistically challenging, but not impossible!
I would love to hear of any good spots locally, or even a bit further away, to dip toes and more into the Thames!
Let me know any good spots, plus any memories, thoughts, dreams you have about rivers, on Instagram or Facebook!
